Technology
When it comes to the development of transport packaging, quality is an indisputable point. Because, in addition to being responsible for containing and conserving the goods, the transport packaging serves to identify the components in the logistics flow, provide important information to suppliers or distribution centers and also facilitate the movement, storage and display of items. The pallet, for example, is an essential part of packaging for stocking and transporting goods. In order to produce suitable and efficient products for their function, we talk about Structural Foam technology that allows the manufacture of large packages with high mechanical resistance.
Structural foam molding is an option available to manufacturers who are looking for a way to create stronger, more rigid plastic parts. It is also a method used to reduce potential part weight for larger parts. Almost any type of resin can be used with this type of injection molding.
What is this process?
Plastic parts made using the Structural Foam process have a cellular or a structural core, surrounded with a thick outer layer (skin) that combine to give the products a greater strength to weight ratio and up to twice the rigidity of the solid plastic products that are of the same material and weight.
The structural foam molding process uses nitrogen gas as a foaming agent, which is introduced in the barrel of the extruder. This yields parts that are much larger and sturdier than injection molded parts. Parts produced through the structural foam molding process are structurally sound, nearly stress-free and have minimal warpage.
